Over here at Team Wufoo, we make it a priority to listen to you, understand your needs, and deliver capabilities to make it easier for you to accomplish your goals. This starts with our great customer support team and continues on down to our product and engineering teams. However, we feel we can do a better job to engage with you—that’s why we’ve implemented a new feature named (drumroll please)… Feedback!

Feedback Location

You’ll find Feedback under the Account menu. It’s very easy to use—in fact, we’d love if you would use Feedback at your next login to let us know what you think! The goal is very simple: we know you have a ton of things to do and have great ideas on how we can help you do them. So we made an easy way to help you send your ideas to us. You can also vote on features other customers have proposed to help us know which ones we should be working on.

Once you select Feedback, a new window will appear where you can browse features that other customers have suggested, vote on any of the ones that you like, suggest your own ideas or—if you happen to run into one—report a bug you’ve encountered.

We tried to keep the interface as simple as possible because we know you have a lot going on. You can search for an idea to see if others have suggested something similar, or display ideas that are most recent or most popular so you can add your vote.

The Wufoo team will use this information to help guide what new features and functionality are being put into our roadmap. FYI: we may have some follow-up questions for you regarding the requested capability to ensure we understand how the feature should behave.

That’s about it! We look forward to hearing your ideas and feedback.

5 tips to keep your customers engaged this holiday season

Halloween is already gone–I totally nailed my ‘The Dude from The Big Lebowski’ costume, by the way–but the festivities keep coming and they won’t stop for a full two months (or three if you are one of the lucky kids who gets gifts on Three Kings Day on Jan. 6).

During these hectic holidays, we know that you and your customers are constantly on the go. As our digital lives have become more mobile and social, it’s crucial to know how to connect with your audience and listen to your customers on all platforms to keep them closely connected to your brand.

For example, with our freshly redesigned mobile experience, you can keep an eye on your incoming responses from your smartphone while you hold a glass of punch in your other hand!

To help you out, we thought we’d bring you some holiday cheer by sharing some great tips to keep your customers engaged with Wufoo’s help!

  1. Share your web forms on social channels

Your customers may not have a lot of time, but they recognize value when they see it. With Wufoo, you can take your online forms to the most popular social platforms in a few clicks. From there, you can start talking to your target market directly and find out more about their holiday needs, plans, and even budgets.

While your customers scroll through Auntie Ada’s holiday pics on Facebook or Uncle Pedro’s online greeting cards on Twitter… Kapow! Suddenly they see your form and now you’ve got a new order for one of your custom felted holiday wreaths! Here’s a simple tutorial on how to share your form on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and other platforms so you can boost those sales. 


  1. Take full advantage of our email integrations

Granted: A snazzy “Ho Ho Ho” holiday sweater is tops, but after that, customer feedback is pretty much the greatest gift you can receive this season.

If you want your customers to tell you what they think about your brand, you need to create an easy way for them to give you feedback. Reach out to them with a nurture email campaign. You can trigger personalized emails (and follow ups) with any of our many email marketing integrations.

And remember those web forms you shared on social media? When you collect customer feedback through those online forms, their contact info can be added automatically to an email list on MailChimp, Campaign Monitor, and others.

  1. Personalize your engagement strategy 

When we talk about engagement, personalization is key. Wufoo can help you automate your campaigns using the information you collect in your forms.

For example, if you were on Santa Claus’ marketing team you could set up customized content for the nice kids and a different offering for the naughty ones… with how-tos and tips to remember to be nice next year!

One of the features our customers love the most is the capability to receive payments through a Wufoo form, thanks to partners like PayPal, Stripe, and Authorize.Net. Once you’ve nurtured your customers, targeted them with customized content, and you’ve identified the most engaged folks - how about giving a few of them a discount to keep them happy as they are processing a payment and possibly turn them into your promoters and advocates?

Use Wufoo’s Rule Builder to create a special coupon code that you can add to your forms and run sales through the holiday season! Watch this video to see how.


  1. Tie it all together by analyzing your data with Wufoo’s Report Builder

Once you’ve collected your customers’ opinions and information through social marketing channels, go straight to our Report Builder to analyze your results. Reports allow you to display your data visually, to get a clear picture of what the trends are. Plus, you can share the results with others!

Using this nifty tool, Santa’s marketing team can easily sort out the naughty kids from the nice ones. There’s no escape, so be nice!

Upcoming Server Maintenance

Web form design tips for higher completion rates!

Hey Wufans! We know you are always looking for ways to increase your form completion rates and get more entries. In the past, we’ve discussed the key mistakes to avoid to improve form completions. Today, let’s focus on the importance of visual web form design and its impact on form completions.

We can all agree that first impressions matter. And it’s no different with online form design. Think about the time when you saw that beautifully designed car and thought, “Dang, I want to drive that,” or visited a well-designed website and thought, “That looks so cool,” or looked at a fresh-baked, hand-crafted pizza and thought, “I’d eat that whole thing in under a minute”.  That’s the same way you want your form respondents to think when they look at your forms! Studies suggest that users make their own design impressions about websites within 50ms. These impressions are based on a combination of factors like colors, fonts, spacing, and more. So, let’s look at four ways we can make your Wufoo forms stand out and make that great first impression!

1. Out-of-the-box themes

When you design stand-alone forms that won’t be embedded on websites, you can save time and effort by using one of our six awesome out-of-the-box themes. These themes are designed to make your forms look good on any device your respondent uses. So, next time you design a form, check out these six themes that are already waiting for you in your themes selection, click on one of them, and start increasing completions.

2. Custom themes

Want to let your creativity shine through your web form design? Use our theme designer to create custom themes in line with your brand image. The theme designer lets you pick elements like font, size, and color for individual elements in your form. Plus, once you make a custom theme, you can save it to use it any time you’d like to bring consistency to all the related forms in your account.

Good typography is not only a great way to polish your brand image— it makes the forms easy to read on any device, resulting in higher conversion. You can use one of the many fonts supported by Wufoo or you can import fonts and use them in custom themes.

If you are a CSS Pro and have written your own CSS for your theme, you can reference the URL of the file in the theme designer and apply the theme to your forms. The file has to be hosted in an external file storage system and appropriate access rights should be set so that the file is accessible from Wufoo.

3. Logos, logos, logos

One of the best ways to build trust with form respondents and encourage them to fill out your forms is by using your logo in Wufoo forms. Using your logo helps form respondents identify your brand. To use a logo in your custom theme, you can host the logo in an external file storage system. Remember: whether you host the image in a storage system or in your own server, please ensure that it’s SSL certified so that you don’t get any warnings.

4. Themes for forms in websites

So far we’ve covered the key aspects of themes for standalone forms. But what about Wufoo forms that are embedded in a website? You can embed forms in two ways:

  1. Use the form URL in your website code, or
  2. Use the embed code provided in the share page.

To ensure that the styling of the embedded Wufoo form matches the styling of your website, you can enter the URL of your website’s CSS file through theme designer.  

If you use our embed form code, we strip out the CSS elements so that the form automatically takes the theme of your website. However, this method may cause small CSS conflicts which can be resolved by making minor tweaks using theme designer.  Learn how to avoid some of the pitfalls of using embedded forms here. Our suggested method is to use embedded form code along with uploading the CSS of your website in theme designer so that any conflicts are avoided.

You now have all the tools to create web form design that looks awesome and increase form completions! Use our out-of-the-box themes or custom themes along with logos on every form to keep those form entries flowing!

Form to Finish – Asana + Wufoo Integration Updated

Exciting news for Wufoo users! Our friends at Asana have updated and improved their integration with Wufoo. Asana is the easiest way for teams to track their work—and get results. From tracking bugs, task assignments, applications, and more, this improved integration streamlines the process of collecting requests by linking Wufoo forms to Asana so you can keep track of each request—and make sure it gets done.

Wufoo online forms enable your co-workers, customers, and/or vendors to submit information, feedback, or requests in a standardized format. Since Wufoo forms are fully customizable, you can include essential fields for all of the key details you need to take action. You can even customize your web forms to make them look like an integrated part of your site experience. Wufoo can also direct where the responses go, so can get notified when you receive a submitted form and easily stay on top of things.

5 tips for optimizing your mobile forms design

Howdy, Wufoo fans! We recently announced our all-new mobile experience (and we couldn’t be prouder of it), so we decided we should follow up with some great tips from our expert mobile form designers to help you create the best mobile forms. These best practices will help you create mobile-friendly forms in no time, so let’s jump in!

1. Keep it short and sweet

Think about it: How much time would you want to spend scrolling and typing out answers on a small screen? When you’re designing a mobile form, be considerate of your respondents’ comfort and time.

Here’s how:

  • Limit the number of form fields for “Contact Forms
  • Use multiple choice questions for order forms and surveys
  • Ask questions that are easily answered in a few words

Here’s a good example of an order form with multiple choice questions. (And it’s double good because it features… pizza!)  

  1. Choose your media wisely

Including images or video in your form? Be aware of bandwidth constraints which can delay image loading times and degrade image quality. Try to choose smaller images and avoid using too many on your mobile form. Also, if you are planning on using videos, it’s better to use a universal media player like YouTube to make sure everyone can access them.   1.  To customize or not to customize

CSS Keywords are awesome for quick form customization, but they can sometimes impact the form’s look on a smaller screen. Use them wisely for mobile forms. Here’s our help article on CSS Layout Keywords if you want to dive deeper into this topic, but here are a couple of basic recommendations:

  • Avoid using CSS keywords that might squish the fields together on a smaller screen. You know that Wufoo lets you use CSS keywords to arrange form fields side-by-side, but that may not always work to your advantage on a mobile screen–so use them with that possibility in mind.
  • Remember that at Wufoo we make our mobile forms automatically responsive, so you can trust our built-in design to give your customers a great user experience.


  1. Be thankful and strategic

Keep your customers happy with a short ‘Thank you’ message once they hit ‘Submit.’ It serves both as a built-in confirmation message and a final touch point where you can make your customers feel extra special.


Another option is to set up a redirect that will help you make sure you don’t lose your customers on mobile: You can send them to a mobile-optimized page of your choice where, for example, they could sign up for your newsletter.


  1. Make sure it looks and works great on any device

Not all mobile devices are created equal. The same form in Safari on an iPhone might look slightly different than in Chrome on Android, and you never know what your customers’ device preferences are! Before you share your form, try filling it out on multiple mobile devices and operating systems. This way you can be sure that you will offer a great experience to people filling out your form. And remember the golden rule of mobile forms: keep it short, from your email subject line to your confirmation page.

Wufoo’s newest features—and a sneak peek at what’s next!

wufoo new features 2017Happy Summer, Wufoo aficionados! It seems like just yesterday we were making our New Year Form Resolutions. Now we’re halfway through the year!

Maybe the time flew by because we’ve been hard at work adding new Wufoo features that were at the top of your holiday wishlist. After reading through a bunch of customer emails and feature requests, we implemented FOUR, count ‘em FOUR, major changes to Wufoo in the first half of 2017. In case you missed them in our newsletters…Here they are again for your convenience!

  1. File Upload Increase

If you’ve used our file upload feature, you know what a wonderful feature it truly is. But, as many of our lovely customers pointed out to us, the 10MB size limit was a bit small.

And we agreed! So we improved on this feature by more than doubling the size of files that can be accepted per file upload field (up to 25MB from 10MB!) and quintupling the total file limit per entry (up to 100MB from 20MB) for our Bona Fide and higher plans.

  1. Custom Close Form Message

Many of our amazing, form-tastic customers like to be able to close their form, but haven’t been super fond of our “Sorry, but this form is no longer accepting submissions.”

It’s a fine message, but it didn’t have the pazazz and customization that our users know and love. Well we updated that, too! Now you can customize the message of your closed form, or set up a redirect to one of your site’s pages.

  1. Google Analytics Tracking

Perhaps one of our most awesome new features, in our humble opinion. Now you can track all your pageviews, understand user behavior, and use just about all the other GA features! Collecting this data helps you gain valuable insights into how people interact with your Wufoo form.

And as we all know… valuable insights = better business decisions.

  1. Placeholder Text

Another commonly requested customer feature that we think will improve your form experience ten-fold — Rather than just hoping your customers or clients give you the right info, be sure they know exactly what kind of answer you’re looking for!

Use Placeholder Text in your form as a handy guide to people who need to give you their info. By giving them examples and instructions within form fields, you’ll make filling out your form a breeze.

Sneak peek: The rest of 2017…and beyond!

The team’s been doing some amazing work behind the scenes to get Wufoo in tiptop shape. We’ve updated our databases so they can handle more entries and added pagination to the Form Manager to help with loading time. All these system updates help us to keep your data secure and your forms functioning splendidly.

It also laid the groundwork for all the product updates we’ve made so far… and for those features that have yet to come! We still have 6 months left of 2017 to look into commonly requested features:

  • Redesigned, mobile-friendly Wufoo account pages? Wouldn’t have been possible without some recent code updates!
  • Save-and-return feature? The database changes helped us put this on our roadmap!
  • No field limit? Our systems have been prepped for that change, too!

… we’ve said too much… (Isn’t it exciting?!)

Instantly Populate PDF Receipts from Wufoo Order Forms

As part of our ongoing tradition of inviting partners to publish guest posts in Wufoo blog, we are glad to feature an awesome document generation application, Webmerge that integrates well with Wufoo web forms.  Our friends at Webmerge have nicely laid out the easy steps to setup the integration with Wufoo.

Collecting orders from your website can be easy with a web form from Wufoo.  With Wufoo, you can build your form in minutes and customize the look of your form with ease.

Add WebMerge to your order process, and you can automatically generate documents like contracts, invoices, letters, and more.  WebMerge can automatically take the information that’s submitted through your form and populate a template.  You’ll never have to copy & paste data into a template again!

In this example, we’re going to show you how to automatically generate a PDF receipt from an order form.  We’ll automatically email this receipt directly to our customer when they submit an order through our Wufoo form.

To get started, we’re going to setup the template for our receipt in WebMerge.  From the Documents page, click the New Document button then enter a name.  On the next step, select the Build Your Own document type and then continue.

Next, you’ll be taken to the Document Builder where you can setup your receipt template.  We’re going to add our logo, contact information, and then for the spots that we want to insert our customer/order information, we’re going to use merge fields that look like {$CustomerName}, {$Amount}, etc.

Here’s what our receipt template looks like:

Once you have your template finished, let’s save the document and you’ll be taken to the Settings tab where you can modify various options like the type of file that is generated and the name of the file.  For this example, we’re going to generate a PDF and include the name of our customer in the file name.

We’re also going to turn on Debug Mode (under Test Mode) and then we’re going to turn on the Field Map (under Advanced Settings).  We’re going to use this later to match our Wufoo fields with our merge fields.

Next, we’re going to setup our email delivery so that the receipt is emailed directly to our customer.  On the Deliver tab, click the Edit button under the default email delivery.  For the To address, we’re going to use the merge field for the customer’s email address.

If you don’t have a merge field in your document for the customer’s email address, select «Other» from the dropdown then enter something like {$Email}.

Feel free to edit the other settings of the email delivery.

After you have saved your email delivery, we are ready to setup the integration with Wufoo.  To send the Wufoo form entries over to WebMerge, we’re going to use Webhooks.  We need to grab the Merge URL for our document from the Merge tab.

Inside Wufoo, we’re going to add a new Webhook to our form.  Go to Edit your form then choose Add Integration from the list.  On the next page, select Webhook from the Add Application dropdown.

Then, we’re going to add our Merge URL in the Webhook URL box.  This will automatically send every form entry over to WebMerge.

Once we have our webhook setup, we need to run a test so that we can map the Wufoo fields to our merge fields.  Go ahead and submit another entry to your form, then go back into WebMerge.

Inside WebMerge, you’ll want to go to the Overview tab of your document and you’ll see a View Data button.  Click that and you’ll see a list of all the fields that we’re receiving from Wufoo.  If you click the fields, you’ll see the field code you need to use in your Field Map to match up with your merge fields.

The last piece of the puzzle is to take the field codes from the Overview tab and put them in the Field Map under the associated field.  Here’s what our Field Map looks like:

After you have matched up all your merge fields with the field codes from Wufoo, we’re done with our setup!  We’re now ready to generate a real receipt when we get an order.  We’ll do one more test to make sure everything is working correctly.

Congrats, you’re all finished!  You can now automatically populate all kinds of documents from your Wufoo entries.
